Throwback Thoughts: Will and Kate's Wedding!
OK, so! On Instagram I asked what kinds of royal distractions people were most interested in (given the very stressful state of global affairs). The top answer, by far, was to relive a royal wedding or two. FANTASTIC IDEA, Fam. Weddings are when the British Royal Family is at its finest. I figured we should go all in on Will and Kate’s 2011 wedding. That unforgettable Friday in late April holds a very special place in my heart; it was my introduction to the House of Windsor. Matt and I were planning our own wedding that same year and I got swept up in the fairytale of a commoner finding her real-life prince.
I pulled an all-nighter to watch it live, having taken a late flight from New York, where I lived, to Los Angeles, where Matt was in grad school. He picked me up at the airport and we raced through the empty city streets. I got to a television just before Kate appeared in the back of the chauffeured Rolls Royce and I was *enchanted* by the spectacle. The red carpet rolled out for her arrival! The sound of the church bells! The endless waving on the carriage ride! The balcony kiss—two kisses, actually! Kate’s gown, by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, immediately became one of my favorite fashion moments of all time. BUT MOSTLY (sorry, had to!) the day turned me into a royal enthusiast. I was hooked, and haven’t looked back.
I rewatched the broadcast over two nights recently. Talk about escaping to happier times! It was a total delight. 10/10 highly recommend! Along with my deep dive on Insta stories, I would love to hear your thoughts on this epic day in the comments of this post. Where were you when you watched it? What do you remember? Are there any delicious little details that stand out or feelings that have lingered with you since? Let’s all lose ourselves for a moment, shall we? Please share below!
A note on comments: During these trying times, it is more important than ever to keep your comments constructive. Please keep your focus on Kate and this event. Anything else will be deleted!
